Uncontested victory over bottom of the table

TBV doesn’t have to shine – Victory for the annual closure

In the last match of the year the TBV defeats the bottom-placed club Eintracht Hildesheim with 29:24 (15:11) and goes into the winter break.

In the Sparkassenarena in Hildesheim the TBV commenced the match with Carsten Lichtlein in goal, Jens Bechtloff, Gunnar Dietrich, Martin Strobel, Sebastian Preiß, Rolf Hermann and Florian Kehrmann.

Eintracht opened the scoring (0:1), but Christoph Theuerkauf levelled immediately through his first seven-metre throw and via fast-break Bechtloff heightened in the 3rd minute to 2:1. At the beginning both teams struggled to finish off their attacks successfully, however, the TBV made full use of the errors of Hildesheim and thus took the lead with 3:1. Nevertheless Hildesheim stayed in touch with the TBV and wanted to rack up the second home victory of the season.

In the 9th minute Preiß was benched with the first time penalty against the TBV and Jahns equalised through the due seven-metre throw to 3:3. Anyhow, Kehrmann countered immediately and put the TBV in front again. Then, in the 11th minute, Hermann scored to 5:3 and thus raised the advantage to two goals. By then the TBV had found its pace, Theuerkauf netted to 6:3 – again per seven-metre throw. The TBV had the match under control.

Then the referees awarded the second time penalty against the TBV, this time it was Dietrich’s turn, Slundt converted the due seven-metre throw and shortened to 5:7. Also Hribar got one back to 6:7 and Bechtloff was benched with the next time penalty right after Preiß had just come on again from the penalty bench. The TBV was under pressure, Hermann could heighten, but Hildesheim stayed on the ball and countered immediately. Consequently Quist, who could overcome Lichtlein per fast-break, equalised to 9:9 (21st).

Anyhow, the TBV was still the commanding team, but omitted taking the fight out of Eintracht already early on. After the goals of Hermann and Schneider the TBV was back in the lead with two goals again at a score of 11:9 and Kehrmann advanced once more against Eintracht goalkeeper Klockmann to 12:9 (24th). And also in the following the TBV stuck to its guns. After Hermann’s goal to 13:9 Eintracht coach Volker Mudrow saw himself forced to call his time-out, exactly 24:47 minutes had been played.

In the 28th minute Eintracht player Morten Slundt had to leave the court for two minutes, at a score of 13:10 the TBV got the chance to pull clear from the hosts. Theuerkauf converted his third seven-metre throw to 14:10 – “Theuer” also gave Eintracht goalkeeper Patrick Schulz no chance. Unfortunately the TBV defence was too lax, so that Hribar could shorten once more for Eintracht Hildesheim, before Patrail could fix the halftime score at 15:11 with his second goal.

Also with an altered line-up – Dietrich, Schneider and Hermann took over the backcourt positions – the TBV got off to a good start in half two. In the 32nd minute Theuerkauf heightened to 16:11 through his already fourth successfully converted seven-metre throw and additionally Slundt was benched with a two-minute suspension. Everything spoke in favour of the TBV. However, Hildesheim could rely on Dennis Klockmann in goal who kept his team in the running and prevented the TBV from pulling clear. In fact the hosts reduced the arrears to only 16:13 through Jahns’s penalty throw and subsequently Tzimourtos even shortened to 16:14 (37th).

Instead of comfortably turning into the road to victory, the TBV had awakened Eintracht’s hope for a surprise victory. Hermann steadied the nerves a bit with his fifth goal (17:14). Also Theuerkauf converted his fifth seven-metre throw without hesitation – the TBV seemed to be on the right track again. Shortly afterwards Hermann reconfirmed the TBV’s superiority with the 19:14 (43rd) against Klockmann.

However, the match remained a desperate struggle, Tzimourtos shortened to 16:19 in the 45th minute – Eintracht absolutely didn’t want to give in to the TBV. In the 48th minute Preiß was benched for the second time with a two-minute suspension and Hildesheim converted the due seven-metre throw to 20:17, before Bechtloff intercepted the ball and netted to 21:17 per fast-break. In the 52nd minute the preliminary decision seemed to be made for good, Patrail heightened to 23:18.

By then Theuerkauf and Strobel had come on, the match paced back and forth, Jahns shortened, Patrail advanced, Jahns countered – thus, in the 53rd minute the score board displayed 24:20. Then Kehrmann’s and Preiß’s brace finally sealed the deal for the TBV. Volker Mudrow tried to make up ground once more and called his time-out after 53:40 minutes of play. Jahns scored for Eintracht once more, but Strobel answered promptly and with that shushed the last optimists among the home crowd of Eintracht Hildesheim. However, anew the TBV slackened the reins a bit and two fast goals of Eintracht caused Dirk Beuchler to call his time-out, 56:02 minutes had been played. Beuchler rearranged his team, the TBV attack could overcome the open defence of Hildesheim and Theuerkauf scored to 28:23.

Three minutes before the end Strobel was benched once more for two minutes, but Hildesheim couldn’t make use of the overload anymore. The TBV celebrated a lacklustre, but basically uncontested 29:24-win against Eintracht Hildesheim and now the winter break can begin with a feeling of success.
