TBV Lemgo were unable at any point to show anything like their recent performance in Kiel. Martin Strobel managed to injure a leg, how badly remains to be seen.
After winning a point in Kiel, TBV Lemgo had a wake-up call in the Lipperland Arena and had to take a solid blow by HSV with 25:34 (10:15) on the chin. TBV Lemgo started the game with Michael Binder, Martin Strobel, Ferenc Ilyés, Holger Glandorf, Florian Kehrmann and Mark Schmetz in defence. In the attack, Michael Kraus swapped with Ilyés, Strobel went into the centre and Kehrmann to the circle.
During the first attack, HSV could only score a goal due to a penalty throw, with which Hans Lindberg was able to beat Martin Galia in the TBV goal. It took 3:40 minutes before Michael Kraus was able to score the first goal to make it 1:3. TBV had a hairy moment when hardly 2 minutes later Strobel made it 2:4. The TBV mid-fielder stayed injured on the ground and needed treatment to his right ankle. He initially managed to carry on playing before Tamas Mocsai took over the central position after just 10 minutes of play. The x-ray examination carried out on Monday by club doctor Volker Broy did not show any damage to the bone but an MRI test to be carried out on Thursday may possibly show damage to soft tissue.
The referee duo of Fleisch/Rieber got the 4,861 fans in the sold out Lipperland Arena worked up early on in the game as twice in a short period goals scored by Holger Glandorf were disallowed. HSV made use of the unrest and forged ahead with two goals by Marcin Lijewski and one by Torsten Jansen to lead 3:7. After 14 minutes Carsten Lichtlein replaced the unfortunate Martin Galia in goal.
At 4:9 coach Volker Mudrow called for a time out. Subsequently Ilyés played in the attack, Kraus switched to the centre and Mocsai to half-right. Although a man short, Mocsai was sent to the sin-bin for two minutes, Ilyés managed to shorten the lead to 6:10. At 7:12 visiting trainer Martin Schwalb took his time-out. Sebastian Preiss, who was still clearly handicapped, rejoined the game for TBV at the circle and promptly scored to make it 8:12.
During the entire first half the HSV pivot, Igor Vori, who scored two successive goals to 8:13 and 8:14, gave Marcin Lijewski in the TBV defence problems time and time again. As such the visitors were able to head for the dressing rooms at half time with a well-deserved 10:15 lead.
TBV had an unfortunate start to the second half and quickly conceded two goals from Gillaume Gille and again Vori with only one TBV hit from Kehrmann to make it 11:19 after 35 minutes and an eight goal deficit. HSV's Pascal Hens took to the field again after the game against Minden but, after a foul, was taken off again after just a few minutes, the simple goals of the HSV striker were not needed either. TBV could not make use of a number of goal opportunities in the attack, made more and more mistakes and fell almost hopelessly behind. As in the first half, Vori scored, bringing his tally for the game to ten goals making him the best HSV player, and the Lijewski-Brothers scored many times.
TBV carried on fighting all the same and with goals from Mocsai and Herrmann, who replaced Glandorf, were able to defend the deficit. After exactly 40 minutes of time played the score stood at 15:23. However, a comeback as in Kiel was at no point within TBV's reach this evening and HSV managed to increase the lead even further. At 16:26 Volker Mudrow put the green card on the table. Subsequently, Strobel and Kehrmann moved up in defence but the situation remained unchanged. At times the visitors led by 13 goals and the crowd could only watch how TBV headed for disaster. At least in the dying minutes Kraus & Co rebelled and were able to bring some decency to the final score. On this day TBV had very little with which to fight the championship contender and had to accept a 25:34 defeat.
Comments on the game:
Martin Schwalb: It was a good game for us, but of course it does not happen every day that you have such a great day. Our defence was very aggressive and were able to keep the backs at bay. You could see what a difference a strong defensive performance makes and in the attack things went well today too. We don’t consider it normal that we could win here in Lemgo at this score. Today, everything worked out.
Volker Mudrow: HSV deserves this win. We have to accept it, even the high score. Igor Vori gave us problems that we were not able to solve. We had nothing to hold him back, neither as a team nor individually. Today's game was a lesson for us. There was a trace of euphoria here in Lemgo after the win in Kiel. To then lose is of course very bitter. After such a game there is always a lot of speculation, who played well and who badly. Even if Holger Glandorf has not managed to score for two games in a row, to me he is still a world-class player. We also have to take into consideration that he underwent an operation on his hand not too long ago and needs more time. He was also unfortunate that a goal he scored was adjudged to be an offensive foul and disallowed. However, it doesn't help to look for excuses, we have to work hard and look forward, that way it can only get better.
