Despite their injury woes, TBV Lemgo were able to get away scot-free from the derby game against TuS N-Lübbecke.
For long periods TBV Lemgo were able to show a strong performance during the OWL derby against TuS N-Lübbecke with a 33:28 (14:10) win. For Martin Galia's comeback in front of 4,375 spectators, it was Carsten Lichtlein that Volker Mudrow put in goal, in attack were Mark Schmetz, Holger Glandorf, Martin Strobel, Michael Kraus, Michael Binder and Florian Kehrmann as pivot man on the circle. In defence Kraus swapped with Ilyés but the latter already received a second yellow card in the 17th minute and was subsequently replaced by Daniel Kubes.
TBV had to do without Bechtloff, Geirsson, Svavarsson and Preiss but started out very focused from a strong defence,in which Florian Kehrmann played in an advanced position against the left-back position of TuS keeping Arne Niemeyer from hardly developing his game. Until the 6:3 (11th) through Kraus everything was going to plan for TBV but then a slow-down in the host's game meant that they stayed without a goal for a full seven minutes. However, as the defence was well positioned, TuS were not able to equalise either. At 7:6 the visitors closed to within one goal but that was all they could do.
Mudrow reacted and brought Tamas Mocsai into the centre, Rolf Hermann played at right-back. Subsequently TBV went ahead and at 12:8 (27th) through Tamas Mocsai led for the first time by four goals, which they held until the half-time whistle.
After the break, it was the visitors who got off to a better start. A double hit by Heidmar Felixsson brought TuS to within two goals. As Thorir Olafsson had to leave the pitch for two minutes, TBV again went ahead 16:12 through two goals by Rolf Hermann. In defence TBV still bristled with self-confidence so that during a two-minute penalty against Rolf Hermann after just 37 minutes the visitors were not able to take the advantage. Instead, Volker Mudrow's team kept expanding their lead to 21:15 before TuS coach Patrik Liljestrand took his time-out with just 39:25 minutes on the clock.
In the 45th minute, Kraus increased the lead to eight goals at 26:18. But then Volker Mudrow became agitated over sloppiness in the defence and even in the attack. His team was now showing weaknesses. Although TuS managed to fight back to within five goals they never seriously endangered TBV. In the dying minutes coach Mudrow was able to change the whole team around, Strobel directed the play from the centre, Ilyés came in for Kraus and Hermann for Glandorf. The spectators showed their appreciation for the confident performance throughout much of the game with standing ovations, which prompted TBV-manager Volker Mudrow to spontaneous thank the fans at the subsequent press conference.
Patrik Liljestrand: Congratulations to Lemgo for the well-deserved win. Our goalkeepers saved well today. What was not so good was the defence. Glandorf and Kraus were allowed to score too many goals but even worse was our line in attack. We had a game plan but in the opening minutes we were already unable to implement it and fell behind immediately. In Lemgo it is impossible to win in this manner. However, the team fought very well.
Volker Mudrow: The most important thing for us today was to win. We were expecting a scrappy derby game, without a regular left winger and without a pivot. We put Florian Kehrmann on the circle and he has earned special praise today. He also played well in defence. In the first half Carsten Lichtlein saved nine throws which shows good coordination with the defence. I was very satisfied with the overall performance in the first half, the only drawback was not making use of all the chances we had. In the second half we made some small errors and up front we played somewhat impatiently again. Five games have now been played and we have 8:2 points. I expected 10:0. The strong teams, Hamburg and Kiel are up next and we need to adjust ourselves accordingly.
