The TBV Lemgo won the game against HSG Dusseldorf by 26:21 (12:12) but had more trouble with the newling from the State Capital than they had bargained for.
Next to Larsson who, on loan, was in goal for the definitely last time for TBV, Kehrmann, Glandorf, Kraus, Ilyes, Binder and Preiss started the game. The visitors from Dusseldorf used the opening minutes, in which TBV failed to take the chances offered, to take a 2:0 lead through Frantisek Sulc and Michael Hegemann. It was then Holger Glandorf who opened the scoring for the TBV in the 3rd minute. A further three successive goals by Kehrmann, Binder and Kraus from the seven metre spot confirmed the clear favourite status of TBV. In front of 4,029 spectators Volker Mudrow's team clearly the better team but continued to be negligent with the chances that cropped up and allowed the visitors in defence too many opportunities to shoot.
As such, in the 18th minute the score on the board was only 7:5. A time penalty against Ilyées even allowed HSG to cut the lead to just one goal. And in the 20th minute it was Foelser who scored the equaliser after a counterattack. Volker Mudrow had seen enough and put down his green card after only 19:31 minutes. From then on Mocsai went into the centre with Strobel in the left back area and Glandorf on the right. Then the referee team Dedens/Geckert allowed a nasty foul on Strobel to go unpunished; Larsson managed to parry the counterattack but subsequently Dusseldorf took the lead a 7:8, which Mocsai countered with an enormous throw by return.
After a new Dusseldorf lead by Sulc, Mudrow brought on Carsten Lichtlein for Larsson who was so often left alone. Lichtlein parried the first throw, but the problem with the number of missed chances in the attack remained as well as a row of simple mistakes. Six minutes to half-time and only a meagre 9:9 was on the board. Behind the advanced defender, Martin Strobel, Lichtlein was doing a good job but up front it was Matthias Puhle in the visitors goal who continued to be the HSG-hero of the game. Therefore, in the 27th minute as a consequence, the score stood at 9:11 for the HSG. After a great goal from Mocsai and an equally fine one from Kehrmann, at least the equaliser had been recovered. One man down and Sulc still managed to take the lead for the HSG but seven seconds before the end of the half Binder was successful to make it 12:12.
After the break nothing much changed, TBV threw too much away and the HSG accepted the presents with thanks. In the 36th minute Binder scored to make it 15:14 but in a counter attack Hegemann even scored from the outside left position. Suddenly TBV started concentrating, unfortunately only for a short time. In the 39th minute Tamas Mocsai was successful to take it to 17:15, the defence in front of the steadfast Carsten Lichtlein was shellproof, the chance to make it 18:15 was there. However, Michael Kraus failed with a seven metre shot so that HSG were able to stay in the game. The HSG followed their game plan to the letter and the 18:18 was the consequence. Once more, however, the TBV took a two goal lead, Schmetz scored in the 45th minute from the seven metre spot. A player more and it was Schmetz again, from the penalty spot again that took the TBV finally to a three goal lead at 21:18.
It was exasperating, again simple ball losses but Carsten Lichtlein managed to save the day more than once and to keep the lead. So with the score at 22:19 TBV took a three goal lead once more after making good use of a mistake by the visitors. A replay of moments once shown continued, a completely open chance to reach 23:19 was thrown away, Dusseldorf approached at 24:20 (54th min).
In the 56th minute, Sebastian Preiss had to leave the field for two minutes after a doubtful decision with the score at 23:20 but two technical errors by the visitors allowed the score to remain the same until the end of the time penalty when Holger Glandorf decided the game with a goal to make it 24:20 after exactly 58 minutes played. Kehrmann followed up at 25:20, the remaining 93 seconds seeped away and included a super save from the best TBV player Carsten Lichtlein which brought the game to a conciliatory end.
Comments on the game:
Goran Suton: So close to the end of the game, I am quite disappointed. As improbable it may sound, we had planned to better than this. Today we showed a good performance but ultimately made too many technical mistakes. The win is too high and does not reflect the reality at all. However, at the end, the TBV had earned the win.
Volker Mudrow: I am not at all satisfied. We wanted to deliver a convincing game for the fans but also for ourselves. That didn' work out. The final 26:21 was the biggest lead of the whole match and that tells th whole story. The goalkeeper and a good defence have enabled us to win the game, I must be able to expect significantly more from the offense. We are looking at the top three positions and consequently we need to concentrate much more on our assignments.
