After a weak second half, TBV finally suffer a deserved 24:29 (12:13) defeat to the promoted team.
TBV began the derby in the Merkur Arena in defence with Galia in goal, Bechtloff and Kehrmann outside, Ilyés and Mocsai in the half positions, and Preiß in the circle. In defence, Mochsai and Kubes switched with Strobel and Glandorf. The first goal in the match was down to Holger Glandorf, who took the score to 1:0 in the second minute. In a serious mood, Martin Strobel scored from the seven-metre spot for a 2:0 lead, sending the ball past Blazicko into the top right corner. Jurecki pulled one back for the hosts, but Strobel was successful with another penalty throw after a foul on Preiß, taking it to 3:1 (6th). In the eighth minute, Felixsson scored to bring it to 3:3, TuS were not to be shaken off.
There was a scare for Lübbecke In the 10th minute, as Heidmar Felixsson fell to the ground with an agonised look on his face. The Icelander was holding his calf, and Alexis Alvanos came on for him. TBV's marking was good to begin with, and they hardly let Lübbecke develop any moves, but when the time came to attack, there was suddenly a spanner in the works: the shots were all easy prey for Blazicko. And the almost inevitable consequence was a goal from Alvanos, taking the score to 3:4 (12th), immediately followed by Olafsson scoring on the counter-attack for 3:5. In the run-up to these events, Martin Strobel was (unintentionally) hit on the head and had to receive treatment. In place of Strobel, Mocsai pulled the strings in the centre, a nice pass by him to Preiß brought TBV to 4:5 (14th).
At 5:6 and after 18:03 minutes of play, Patrik Liljestrand took his first-half time-out; shortly before, Strobel, who had recovered, had failed with his third penalty against Blazicko. With an overlap on the counter-attack at 6:7, Kehrmann then brought the scores level, Hansen then increased the lead to 6:8 (22nd) despite being short-handed on the counter. Jurecki scored again for TuS with a clinical throw into the left corner, then Volker Mudrow took his time-out after 21:36 minutes of play. Kehrmann was successful in the 25th minute after a quick cross on the counter attack, TBV were in the lead again at 9:10. After the next goal by Olafsson, Mudrow brought on Carsten Lichtlein for Martin Galia in goal, but TuS scored again in the 27th minute, restoring a two-goal lead at 10:12. Olafsson scored again to take it to 10:13. Strobel and Co. were still fighting for their breaks, however, and at half-time there was a narrow but thoroughly deserved deficit of 12:13.
TBV began the second half as they had ended the first, but the first throw was immediately saved by Blazicko in the TuS goal. In a similar fashion, the next clear chance was also thrown away. In the 33rd minute Olafsson then took it to 12:15, TBV had wasted its best chance of putting TuS under pressure by equalising. When Tluczinsky scored to take the score to 12:16, TBV were in difficulty and Holger Glandorf was still on the bench after the few minutes he had played at the beginning of the first half.
Jurecki took it to 12:17 (36th), TBV risked seeing their hopes dashed even at this early stage and the goal from Jurecki taking it to 12:18, despite being short-handed, confirmed this impression. The first TBV goal after the break followed in the 38th minute through Bechtloff, played in nicely by Glandorf, who had now returned to the attack. But at first nothing much changed as far as the dominance of the hosts was concerned and when TBV did have clear chances, Blazicko was always in the way in the TuS goal.
In the 42nd minute Bechtloff was successful on the counter-attack, taking it to 15:20, but at this stage no one felt that the match could swing the other way again. Moreover, the guests found themselves two men down in the middle of the second half as the score moved to 15:21. Strobel was now playing at left back, Mocsai was in the centre, Glandorf at right back. Savarsson gave Preiß a break in the circle and scored in the 47th minute for a score of 16:21. Schmetz scored shortly after, following a nice move by Lichtlein and a quick counter took it to 17:21. Glandorf scored in the 49th minute to take it to 18:21. Hope seemed to revive, the TuS trainer Liljestrand immediately took his time-out for the second period at 48:35 minutes of time played.
After Bechtloff had taken it to 19:22, the Methe/Methe team made its appearance, which not only gave TuS a seven-metre penalty but also sent Svavarsson off the court for two minutes, much to the consternation of the TBV bench. The two impartial officials nevertheless refereed the match competently and even-handedly apart from this. A cheeky throw from Schmetz then took the score to 20:23 (52nd). Strobel and Bechtloff then showed what could be possible in the 54th minute; with a warning for time-wasting the pair made a wonderful Kempa move to take it to 21:24, but TBV were just not good enough on the night to defy the convincing aggression of the hosts.
But out of the blue, a great pass from Mocsai to Svavarsson took it to 22:24 (55th) and the game hung in the balance. Schmetz marked well, Rui scored, Mocsai missed – TuS were back on the road to victory. Hansen's goal, taking the score to 22:26 (56th) was the decisive blow, a worthy but solid TuS who were always willing to make sacrifices were too strong for TBV on the night.
