Gerry Weber Stadium

The GERRY WEBER STADIUM in Halle/Westphalia is a multifunctional arena utilisable in many ways with 12.000 seats and can be used for virtually all events owing to the installation of a variable floor adjustable in height. Whereas the location after all has been playable only during summer months until 2006, this has changed in the meantime. Cause has been the application as venue for the Handball World Cup 2007 and hence the conversion has been carried out.

A novel heating system, wind blockers at the hall roof, and a business level of about 2.100 square meters provide for high convenience at all times of the year. The roof of the Stadium may be closed within 60 seconds; hence no kind of weather can endanger the prime event.

A multifunctional arena

While the world’s best tennis stars compete in June during the GERRY WEBER OPEN on lawn, world stars from rock, pop and the cultural scene give guest performances in the contemporary arena throughout the year. The dream couple of classical music, Anna Netrebko and José Cura, for instance, gave a concert in the eastern Westphalian city of linden trees, just like the pop stars Pink, Rod Stewart, Lionel Richie, Elton John, as well as PUR and Peter Maffay.

From a sporting point of view, the XX. Handball World Cup in January 2007 has been the most important international event so far, yet as well the world cup boxing matches of Henry Maske and Felix Sturm and as well the >European Volleyball Olympic Qualification< of women’s national teams were event highlights.

Handball at the Gerry Weber Stadium

An established event every year is handball sports, which is directly connected with the TBV Lemgo (successful local handball club, A.N.). The dual German champion from the Lipperland (local region, A.N.) made its victorious début in the GERRY WEBER STADIUM on 09. May 2004 against the VfL Gummersbach in front of 11.300 viewers and ever since the TBV competes three times every season in the eastern Westphalian event arena.

However, not only German League handball teams are the guests. The German National team around the German team coach Heiner Brandt here competes on a regular basis in international matches and the German Handball Association (DHB) also holds its international tournament "Supercup" in Halle/Westfalen.

The ideal infrastructure with a four-star hotel, remarkable wellness- and beauty facilities, as well as the service provider in sports medicine SALUTO, have turned the GERRY WEBER WORLD with its departments into a prime address for high-performance sports.
